**Inshore:** Speckled trout, redfish, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, white trout. **Offshore:** Red snapper (in season), yellowfin tuna, amberjack, mahi mahi, cobia, wahoo, mangrove snapper, and various reef species. Cocodrie is widely considered one of the best inshore fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico.

**Spring (March–May)** for spawning specks and redfish. **Fall (September–November)** for the best all-around fishing — cooler weather, redfish action, and the start of the wahoo run offshore. **Summer** is peak offshore season for tuna and snapper. **Winter** is excellent for sight-fishing redfish and black drum in clearer water.

Yes. Louisiana saltwater fishing licenses are required for everyone 16 and older. You can buy them online at [wlf.louisiana.gov](https://www.wlf.louisiana.gov) or at most local bait shops. A non-resident saltwater license runs about $30/day or $60 for the season as of 2026 — verify current pricing before your trip.

Absolutely — and most guests do. There's also no shortage of bait shops nearby. Coco Marina has live bait, frozen bait, tackle, ice, and pretty much anything you forgot to pack.

**Coco Marina** is the closest and most popular spot — about 5 minutes from the lodge. They carry live shrimp, dead shrimp, croakers, cocahoes, frozen bait, ice, and full tackle. Several smaller bait shops along Highway 56 also have what you need.
