Never cooked any of these meals before?

No worries- Pelican's View Lodge will leave you with the tools and recipes that you need to prepare it the Cajun way!!

Cajun cuisine known for its spicy notes and heartiness, is a style of cooking that developed in the Southern reaches of the US after Acadian immigrants fled Canada in the 18th century....they lived off the land and what was available to them from the Gulf of Mexico and the water of the bayous. Inspired by rural French cooking, recipes were adapted to include what the Acadians could catch or gather from both the land and sea....

crab, oysters, alligator, crawfish, shrimp, catfish, redfish, etc ....influences from the Spanish, Native Americans, and African-Americans also played a key role in making Cajun cuisine what it is today.

South Louisiana Food & Cooking at Pelican's View Lodge

One of the best parts of any South Louisiana fishing trip isn't just the catching — it's the eating. At Pelican's View Lodge, we've made sure you have everything you need to cook up a true Cajun feast right on the water in Cocodrie.
Cook Your Fresh Catch
There's nothing better than cleaning your fish at the end of a long day and cooking it the same night. The lodge is fully equipped for exactly that. Our outdoor fish frying station with a propane burner and cast iron pot is perfect for a classic Louisiana fish fry. Prefer to boil? The large boiling pot handles shrimp, crabs, crawfish, and potatoes with ease. Fire up the charcoal BBQ and grill your redfish on the half shell with butter and Cajun seasoning — a Louisiana tradition that never gets old.
Full Kitchen Inside
The fully equipped indoor kitchen has everything a group needs to cook serious meals. Refrigerator, dishwasher, pots, pans, dishes, utensils, coffee maker, toaster, and Keurig are all included. Whether you're cooking breakfast before a 5am departure or doing a big seafood boil for the whole group after a day on the water, the kitchen handles it.
Stock Up Before You Arrive
The nearest grocery stores are in Houma, about 30-40 minutes north on Highway 24. We recommend stocking up before heading down to Cocodrie — grab your seasonings, sides, beverages, and anything else you need for the trip. Local seafood markets in the Houma area carry fresh Gulf shrimp, crabs, and fish if you want to supplement your catch.
The Cocodrie Seafood Experience
South Louisiana seafood is in a category of its own. Speckled trout pan-fried in butter and Cajun spice. Redfish on the half shell smoked low and slow. Shrimp boiled with corn, potatoes, and smoked sausage. These are the flavors of Terrebonne Parish — and there's no better place to experience them than right here at Pelican's View Lodge, watching shrimp boats drift past from the deck while dinner sizzles on the grill.
Ready to experience it yourself? Book your stay today and taste what South Louisiana is all about.
