Where is Pelican's View Lodge located?

Pelican's View Lodge is at 7464 Edgewater Drive, Chauvin, Louisiana 70344, in the heart of the Cocodrie fishing community. It's about 1.5 miles south of the intersection of Louisiana Highways 56 and 57. From Houma, it's a 45-minute drive south. From New Orleans, plan on about an hour. From Baton Rouge, roughly two hours.

How many people does Pelican's View Lodge sleep?

The lodge sleeps 10 people comfortably. There are 2 bedrooms plus a loft. Bedroom 1 has a king bed (sleeps 2). Bedroom 2 has two twin-over-full bunk beds (sleeps 4). The loft has another two twin-over-full bunk beds (sleeps 4). There are 2.5 bathrooms total.

Is the lodge waterfront?

Yes. The lodge is built directly on the water with upper and lower screened decks overlooking the canal. You can fish from the deck. You can launch your boat from the on-site ramp. Sunrise and sunset views are some of the best in Cocodrie.

How big is the property?

The lodge has 3 rooms across 2 floors with a loft, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bath, full kitchen, dining area, living room, and upper and lower screened decks. The grounds include the private boat launch, dock, fish cleaning station, outdoor freezer, and parking for vehicles and boat trailers.

Is the property kid-friendly?

Yes. Many of our guests bring their kids. The deck is fitted with steel cable railings (not just rails) so kids can watch boats in the canal safely. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking family meals. There's plenty of room for kids to spread out across the bedrooms and loft.

Who owns Pelican's View Lodge?

Ryan and Chrisy. Ryan is a Thibodaux native who's been fishing the waters of Terrebonne Parish for over 45 years. They purchased the lodge in 2020 as a family escape and started hosting guests after their friends and family wouldn't stop talking about it. Ryan works in healthcare administration with Elevate ENT Partners. They both answer the phone, and they both reply to emails.

How much does Pelican's View Lodge cost per night?

Accepted Answer

Standard rate is $325 per night for the entire property. There's a one-time $125 cleaning fee per stay regardless of length. Rates may flex up for holiday weekends and major fishing tournaments. See our rates page for full details.

Question 8

Are there any per-person charges or hidden fees?

Accepted Answer

No. $325/night covers 1 guest or 10 guests. The cleaning fee is the only additional charge from us. If you book through VRBO or Airbnb, those platforms add their own service fees on top. Booking direct skips the platform fees.

Do you offer last-minute deals?

Yes — if you're flexible on dates and the lodge is empty within two weeks of your stay, contact us directly for a great rate. We'd rather have you fishing than have the lodge sit empty. This is only available through direct booking.

What's the cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Cancellation policy varies depending on how you book. VRBO and Airbnb each have their own policies — check the listing at time of booking. For direct bookings, contact us and we'll work out the terms in writing.

Do you require a deposit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a deposit is required to confirm your booking. The amount varies based on length of stay and platform. Direct bookings can pay deposit by check, Venmo, or other arranged means.

Can I book just a single bedroom or part of the lodge?

Accepted Answer

No. Pelican's View Lodge is rented as a whole property only. You get the entire lodge — both bedrooms, the loft, all bathrooms, kitchen, and outdoor spaces.

Is there a minimum night stay?

Most dates have no minimum. Holiday weekends and tournament weekends typically require a 2-night minimum. Specific minimums are shown in the VRBO and Airbnb calendars.

Do you offer discounts for longer stays?

Accepted Answer

Yes, contact us directly about rates for stays of 4 nights or more. Weekly bookings and corporate group bookings get the best rates.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4:00 PM. Check-out is 10:00 AM.

How does check-in work?

Accepted Answer

Self check-in via keypad. We send the door code and detailed directions a few days before your arrival. No need to meet anyone or pick up keys — drive in, unlock, unload, and start fishing.

Can I check in early or check out late?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes, depending on the calendar. If the lodge is empty the day before your arrival, we can often accommodate early check-in. Same for late check-out if no one is arriving same-day. Just ask — no charge if we can swing it.

What if I arrive at night?

Not a problem. The dock has floodlights, the property has plenty of exterior lighting, and the keypad code works around the clock. We'll send you the GPS coordinates and detailed directions so even first-timers in the dark won't miss the turn.

Does Pelican's View Lodge have a private boat launch?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The private boat launch is one of the property's signature features. You can launch and retrieve your own boat directly from the lodge — no driving to a public ramp, no waiting in line, no long no-wake zones to navigate before you can hit the throttle.

How many boats can I bring?

The lodge has 2 private boat slips at the dock and parking for 2-3 boat trailers on premises. Most groups bring 1 or 2 boats. If you have a larger party with more boats, contact us before booking — we may need to coordinate.

Is there a fee to use the boat launch?

Accepted Answer

No. The boat launch, slips, and dock are all included in the nightly rate.

Can I fish from the deck or dock?

Accepted Answer

Yes — and many guests catch fish without ever leaving the property. The lower deck is positioned right over the water and the dock has night fishing lights. Black drum, redfish, and the occasional speckled trout get caught regularly from the deck.

What's the water access like?

The lodge is on Robinson Canal. From the dock, you can reach the marsh in about a 5-minute boat ride, Lake Boudreaux in about 15 minutes, and Lake Barre in about 10 minutes. Offshore Gulf access is a longer run depending on conditions.

Is there a fish cleaning station?

Yes. There's a dedicated fish cleaning station with running water, plus an outdoor freezer where you can clean, bag, and freeze your catch. No more icing fish in coolers all weekend.

What fish can I catch in Cocodrie?

Inshore: Speckled trout, redfish, black drum, flounder, sheepshead, white trout. Offshore: Red snapper (in season), yellowfin tuna, amberjack, mahi mahi, cobia, wahoo, mangrove snapper, and various reef species. Cocodrie is widely considered one of the best inshore fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico.

What's the best time of year to fish Cocodrie?

Spring (March–May) for spawning specks and redfish. Fall (September–November) for the best all-around fishing — cooler weather, redfish action, and the start of the wahoo run offshore. Summer is peak offshore season for tuna and snapper. Winter is excellent for sight-fishing redfish and black drum in clearer water.

Do I need a Louisiana fishing license?

Yes. Louisiana saltwater fishing licenses are required for everyone 16 and older. You can buy them online at wlf.louisiana.gov or at most local bait shops. A non-resident saltwater license runs about $30/day or $60 for the season as of 2026 — verify current pricing before your trip.
