Planning your first trip to Cocodrie, Louisiana? Or maybe you've fished South Louisiana before but want to know what makes Pelican's View Lodge the ideal basecamp for your adventure? This guide covers everything — from what to pack and where to eat, to what fishing to expect and how to make the most of every hour you're here.
Where is Pelican's View Lodge?
Pelican's View Lodge is located at 7464 Edgewater Drive, Chauvin, Louisiana 70344 — just 1.5 miles south of the Louisiana Highway 56 and 57 intersection. Chauvin is a small fishing community at the end of the road in Terrebonne Parish, about an hour southwest of New Orleans and 45 minutes from Houma.
The lodge is suspended over the water in the quiet neighborhood of Cocodrie, giving you stunning waterfront views and immediate access to some of the most productive inshore and offshore fishing water in Louisiana. Watch shrimp boats drift past from the porch, and fall asleep to the sound of the water.
The Lodge — What's Included
Pelican's View Lodge comfortably sleeps 10 people across 2 bedrooms and a loft. Bedroom 1 has a king bed, Bedroom 2 has two twin-over-full bunk beds, and the loft has two additional twin-over-full bunk beds. There are 2.5 bathrooms total.
Every stay includes fresh linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. The full kitchen is stocked with a dishwasher, pots, pans, dishes, and utensils, plus a coffee maker, toaster, and Keurig (bring your own K-cups). For cooking your catch, we have a boiling pot, charcoal BBQ grill, and a fish frying pot with burner — bring your own propane.
Outdoor amenities include upper and lower private decks with screened porches, a private boat launch, 2 private boat slips, a fish cleaning station with running water, an outdoor freezer, and abundant parking on the premises. WiFi and air conditioning are included.
Fishing from the Lodge
The biggest advantage of staying at Pelican's View Lodge is the private boat launch and slips. You can avoid the long no-wake zones that slow down many anglers launching from public ramps, and get to open water faster. This matters — especially on tournament weekends or when the bite is best at first light.
Several marinas are nearby where you can pick up live bait, ice, and local intel before heading out. Local charter captains are available to guide you on inshore trips targeting speckled trout, redfish, and flounder, or offshore trips to the Gulf for red snapper, amberjack, and tuna. We can help connect you with the right captain for your group.
What to Pack for Your Cocodrie Trip
Fishing gear: Rods, reels, and tackle are not provided — bring your own or rent from a local shop in Houma. Live bait is available at nearby marinas. Bring a good cooler for your catch if you plan to drive it home.
Clothing: South Louisiana weather is unpredictable. Pack lightweight sun protection layers, a rain jacket, and warm layers if you're visiting in fall or winter. A good hat and polarized sunglasses are essential for sight fishing.
Groceries: The nearest grocery stores are in Houma, about 30 to 40 minutes away. Stock up before you head down to Cocodrie — there are limited options once you're at the lodge. That said, cooking a fresh catch on the boiling pot or grill is one of the highlights of the trip.
Propane: The outdoor grill and fish fryer require propane. Bring your own tank — exchange stations are available in Houma.
