Planning a Cocodrie fishing trip and want a local guide who knows the water? Pelican's View Lodge sits right on Bayou Petit Caillou in the Cocodrie area, and our guests can book local charter captains we have fished with and worked with directly. Here is who we recommend and how to set it up.

Stay on the Water, Fish With a Local Captain

Pelican's View Lodge is a whole-house waterfront fishing camp at 7464 Edgewater Drive, Chauvin, LA 70344, on Bayou Petit Caillou. It sleeps 10 with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, and it is set up for anglers:

  • Private boat launch

  • 2 boat slips and boat trailer parking

  • Night fishing lights

  • 2 fish cleaning stations

Bring your own boat, book a guided day, or do both. Lodge guests can book local Cocodrie charter captains, and we have worked with them directly.

Featured Captain: AB Charters with Capt. Aaron Benfield

We have worked with Capt. Aaron Benfield of AB Charters many times, and he is our featured captain for lodge guests. Aaron grew up fishing Louisiana and learned the trade decking for two experienced captains before running his own private inshore and nearshore trips out of Coco Marina in Cocodrie.

From the AB Charters website:

  • Private inshore and nearshore fishing trips out of Coco Marina, 106 Pier 56 Ct, Chauvin, LA 70344

  • Trip options include inshore trips for up to 5 anglers, sight fishing on an 18-ft skiff for up to 2 anglers, catch-and-release bull red trips in season, and all-inclusive group trips

  • All gear, bait, and fish cleaning included

  • Runs a 24-ft Blazer Bay with a 250 HP Yamaha, live bait well, fishfinder, GPS, and a wireless trolling motor

  • Guests bring their own food, drinks, and a Louisiana saltwater fishing license (available through LDWF)

Check his website for current trip options, rates, and open dates.

Where Cocodrie Fishing Charters Go

Cocodrie sits at the south end of Highway 56, right at the edge of open bays, marsh, and barrier islands. Depending on the season, the weather, and what is biting, Cocodrie charter captains and fishing guides out of Chauvin, LA fish waters like Terrebonne Bay, Lake Pelto, Lake Barre, Lake Boudreaux, the barrier islands at Last Island (Isles Dernieres) and Timbalier Island, and the nearshore Gulf rigs.

What You Can Catch

Most trips target speckled trout and redfish, along with a mix of other inshore and nearshore species depending on the season. This is a year-round fishery, and your captain will put you on whatever is biting while you are here.

Cocodrie Charter Captain FAQ

Can a charter captain pick us up at the lodge dock?

Ask your captain. AB Charters trips leave from Coco Marina in Cocodrie, so confirm meeting point and any pickup options when you book.

Do I need a fishing license for a Cocodrie charter?

On AB Charters trips, guests bring their own Louisiana saltwater fishing license, which you can buy through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF). Ask your captain what your trip requires.

What is included on a charter trip?

With AB Charters, all gear, bait, and fish cleaning are included. You bring your own food and drinks. Other captains may differ, so ask when you book.

Can I bring my own boat to Pelican's View Lodge instead?

Yes. The lodge has a private boat launch, 2 boat slips, boat trailer parking, night fishing lights, and 2 fish cleaning stations, so you can run your own trips or mix in a guided day.

How do I book the lodge and a charter together?

Book the lodge at https://company-84092819.staycation.igms.com or call 985-413-0565. Then call your captain directly to set your fishing days; for AB Charters, call Capt. Aaron Benfield at 985-860-6693 or visit bestcocodriefishing.com.
